Farmer’s Market

The high cost of produce represents a substantial barrier to healthy eating in low-income communities, which has a direct impact on the prevalence of chronic disease like diabetes and hypertension. In response, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center has established a weekly farmers market on site – in partnership with Okoʻa Farms. Because our site is accessible by bus, it is convenient to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables for those dependent on public transportation. The Farmer’s Market is co-located in the patient parking area on Fridays to provide access to healthy food choices, not only for patients in conjunction with a medical or dental visit, but to the residents of the elderly housing development across the street.
