Community First Always, has been the guiding principle of everything we do at Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center. Community First Always guided us on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, without hesitation, to set up the first coordinated medical stations at the War Memorial and Maui High School shelters, in partnership with the Maui District Health Office.
Federally Qualified Health Center
As a federally qualified health center (FQHC) operating under the federal Bureau of Primary Healthcare, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center serves all of Maui County except Hana, Lāna'i, and Molokaʻi (served by our sister FQHCs). We have provided an integrated model of primary medical, dental, and behavioral health access to our island community for thirty years. The West Maui fires burned our Lāhainā clinic to the ground, along with two other major outpatient groups (Maui Medical Group and Kaiser Permanente) in Lāhainā. As the only non-Kaiser provider for obstetrics and gynecological services and the only adult dental Medicaid provider on the island, we are especially focused on returning our range of services to the West Side.
As West Maui begins the long road to recovery, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center will focus on restoring critical healthcare access to the community on West Maui. We plan to do so by providing outpatient services from the Lāhainā Comprehensive Health Center in partnership with the Department of Health and other community partners.
Your donations will fund our Maui Disaster Relief Efforts in the following ways:
- Medical equipment and medical supplies to provide continuous care from the Lāhainā Comprehensive Health Center, as well as supplies required for neighborhood outreach teams.
- Facility alterations in order to provide services at the volume needed by the community, from the Lāhainā Comprehensive Health Center.
- Funding expanded social services such as medicolegal services, social work, and community health workers to help community members navigate legal and social barriers on the road to recovery.
- Funding expansion of clinical services, if needed, due to the loss of all major outpatient practices in Lāhainā.
- Creating a Patient Hardship Fund to assist patients from Lāhainā and West Maui who have lost everything and are unable to pay for new medication, durable medical equipment, and dentures.
- Supporting medical and behavioral recovery efforts for our keiki affected by this disaster, in partnership with local schools.
Your donations will NOT be used to support any operations or staffing positions existing at Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center, prior to the Maui wildfires on August 8th, 2023.
